Contemporary Wilderness Artist

In her artist practice, Skye Holland captures the wilderness and it’s inhabitants and how the human imprint sits in balance with the natural world. The artwork conveys the powerful and childlike awe that is felt universally when confronted with the beauty of animals and birds. Often semi-abstract in form, Hollands’ visual language is bright, energetic and layered. Her brush strokes are created using free and bold hand gestures. A freedom and confidence in expression Holland has learned from an early age, using non-verbal communication and sign language to communicate with her profoundly deaf family.

FRAGILE EARTH SERIES

This series grew out of an existential and growing threat of our beautiful planet out of kilter with it’s normal state of equilibrium. A balance which allows for the co-existence of all living things. Our ever increasing human footprint engulfing wild spaces and habitats, migratory patterns and the change in the flow and rhythm of long established ocean currents, weather patterns and the impact on all of us has become a central focus.
