WILD ICONS
A series of paintings and prints by Skye Holland
Wild Icons is a series of works that explore the enduring human connection with
the wild and the balance in which we strive to co-exist with the natural world.
Each animal emerges not simply as a subject but as a presence, holding its own
psychological and symbolic weight. Isolated within open space, each figure
exists as a reflection of our enduring human connection with the wild and the
delicate balance in which we strive to co-exist within the natural world.
Bold colour, graphic form and expressive mark making play a central role in the
series. These visual elements elevate the animal beyond observation and into the
realm of symbol and icon. The works draw on a visual language that alludes to
ancient wall paintings and decorative motifs, where animals were represented as
enduring cultural and spiritual presences.
Each work is created on archival paper using a mix of charcoal, inks, pigments
and gold leaf, combining drawn precision with intuitive mark making.
Wild Icons reflects an ongoing exploration of animals as both living beings and
timeless visual archetypes, symbols of strength, vulnerability and continuity
within an increasingly fragile world.
